Gateway for TouchChat by Saltillo
Gateway for the TouchChat offers vocabularies that can meet a range of user abilities and goals. It is modeled after the original Gateway to Language and Learning© Series of Page Sets. It includes both Symbol and Text-based pages to support user needs and preferences. Symbol-based pages use SymbolStix, produced by n2y.
The following Vocabularies are available within Gateway for the TouchChat. The contents of each is described below.
Gateway 12- Child
This page set is designed for young children with emerging language skills. It contains a set of Activity pages that promote use of telegraphic messages including one set that can enable a child to express a small core of basic needs.
Gateway 20-Child
A 20-location core-word page set for children with emerging language skills and limited fine motor abilities. Page design promotes development of multi-word messages. Includes activity-based pages to enhance classroom participation, literacy development, communication during play activities, and pragmatic language development.
Gateway 40-Child
A 40-location core word page set designed for school-aged children who are able to access a 40-location grid. Page design minimizes keystrokes while facilitating age-appropriate language development. Includes a spelling with word prediction page and activity-based pages to enhance classroom participation, literacy development, communication during play activities, and pragmatic language development.
Gateway 66-Child
A 66-location core word page set designed for school-aged children with advanced expressive language skills and good fine-motor abilities. Page design minimizes keystrokes while enabling complex sentence creation. The design of this page set results in an average of 1.3 keystrokes per word. Includes a spelling/word prediction page. Educational pages are designed to support mastery of core-curriculum competences. Activity-based pages enhance communication during leisure activities, promote literacy skills, social development and device use within the community.
Gateway 20-Teen
A 20-location functionally based core-word page set for teens with limited language abilities and impairments in fine motor or visual skills. Page design promotes use of multi-word messages. Activity-based pages enhance classroom participation and literacy development, communication during leisure activities, and functional communication within the community.
Gateway 30-Teen
A 30-location functionally based core-word page set for teens with limited language abilities who also can benefit from a restricted number of symbols on a page. Page design promotes use of multi-word messages. Includes a spelling page for generating novel messages. Activity-based pages enhance classroom participation, communication during leisure activities, and functional communication within the community.
Gateway 40-Teen
A 40-location core word page set designed for teens and young adults with advanced communication skills. Page design minimizes keystrokes while facilitating age-appropriate sentence structure. Includes a spelling with word prediction page and theme-based pages that enhance social communication, classroom participation, literacy development, communication during leisure activities, and functional communication within the community.
Gateway 66-Teen/Adult
A 66-location core word page set designed for teen and adult users with good fine motor skills who require an efficient core word vocabulary. Page design minimizes keystrokes while enabling complex sentence creation. The design of this page set results in an average of 1.3 keystrokes per word. Includes a spelling/word prediction page. Educational pages are designed to support mastery of core-curriculum competences. Activity-based pages enhance social communication, communication during leisure activities, and promote efficient and functional device use within the community.
Gateway 66-Text
A 66-location core word page set designed literate teens and adults who prefer to communicate using a word-based page set as opposed to a traditional picture-based page set. The 66 Text page set is a duplicate of the Teen/Adult 66 page set with the symbols removed.
Gateway Pro
A highly efficient core word page set that includes a keyboard on the Main page. It includes Gateway's Dynamic Morphology features and offers word prediction, phrases, and community-based topic pages.
How to Purchase Gateway© for the TouchChat by Saltillo?
Gateway can be purchased in the Upgrade Store from within the TouchChat App.
To Make and In-App Purchase:
1. Make a wireless connection (Tap device Settings > Wi-Fi > Choose and available Network
2. Make sure Allow Editing is On (Tap Device Settings > Scroll down to TouchChat or TouchChat HD > Make sure “Allow Editing” is ON
3. Open the TouchChat App and Choose Vocabulary > Choose New Vocabulary > Menu > Upgrade Store > Enter Upgrade Store
4. Choose Gateway and then tap Buy
5. Log-in using your iTunes account information and finish your purchase.
